After this weekend (which was the best weekend idea I've seen since playing GW) I've changed my mind on the way favo(u)r works. I was in the "abolish PvP deciding who can gain access". Being able to access these areas anytime, and for free didn't feel right. While I was in the UW I could still see messages saying such a team had gained us favor and it struck me that it took away that element totally.

I know most of those people in PvE don't care about favor and are doing it for themselves, but they must still get a sense of satisfaction when they earn it back for their area. I've also enjoyed conversations with people whilst watching the messages about favor come up, cheering on "our boys (and girls)" when they get a win.

At the same time, it can be frustrating not getting into UW/FoW when you really need to, so, I'm now in the "give those with favor access for less money". Charging those without something like 3k to access and those with 1k to gain access would be better imo.

What you think?

How about if you have favor its free?
I mean if your area has favor the gods are pleased with you , and don't really req a offering, cause your area has already rewarded the gods with a nice victory.

My feeling is that they should change it from favor to having completed Hell's Precipace, and be available whenever you want it provided you meet that critera, like DOA is for NF people.

I disagree with free 24/7 access, always have, always will. I expect however with the release of GW:EN it will become free 24/7

I had no real feeling whilst I was down there for a short period except "wow, haven't been in here for 6 months, hasn't changed a bit" I left shortly after that.

Free with favor, 1k without. That's the best solution IMO.

@ Robin :
Try to comment on Vandal's idea not suggest yours, I'm pretty sure we have heard it before ( not being rude , just saying you are likely to already have said it somewhere else)
Cause your suggestion doesn't fit in with what he is talking about in any way, except that they are both about FoW/UW

Edit : If we do go the free with favor one, i think the price for when you don't have favor should be raised, maybe 3K and don't say its a lot cause 3K divided by 8 people is 375G which is nothing really.

I didn't get a chance to take advantage of the free access. Yeah, yeah, sad, sure. But I think I agree with Vandal, gives me mixed feelings. Not a big PvPer, but I still like to follow who has control and root on my region. The only drawback is if there are underrepresented countries that never get control. What then? On the other hand, what would 24/7 access do to the market?

This weekend event made me realize two things:

1) How much I hate UW, because it's so darn boring, and the five times we went through it were five times too many.

2) How unbelievably relieved most of Japan, Korea, and Taiwan must be finally getting a chance to experience those two areas. I guarantee many of them went apesh** buying as many ecto and shards as they could to finally get a chance at some Obsidian armor. They must feel royally screwed most of the time, if they choose to stay within their region

Oh wait, one more thing:

3) They're not elite areas, they're endgame areas. I have more fun in the Jade Sea, Echovald Forest, Desolation, and Torment than I do in FoW or UW. All are relatively endgame areas, all are about the same difficulty, and all are free to access all the time. Oh wait, I don't get ectos or shards in those areas. <<I don't care!>>

Sorry, but Favor always hits a sore spot with me, and I actually like PvP. I just don't like HA, never will, not interested in some gimmick-heavy metagame. Same reason I don't do "Tombs runs". It's a really good idea, turned really bad because of a major community separation that has been happening since release. Anet is slowly acknowledging the crowbar separation, and maybe with a little luck, and a lot of time, there will finally be a PvP-independant access to anything PvE.

P.S. Before anyone brings this up, because I know someone will (they always do), Favor has nothing to do with the lore. Why, you ask? Simple question: Point out to me where in the lore it speaks of Europe, America, Japan, Korea, etc. If you can do that, then yes, Favor is in the lore.

Basing a PvE element on PvP is just plain dumb.

I like how it was the best weekend you've ever had, yet you don't want to be able to do it whenever you want.

PvP & PvE need to be completely seperate.

Well i don't think the market would get affected that much, you do still have to have some skill to be able to do FoW/UW so yes we would probably get lots of people down there, but then again a bunch will just not be able to kill anything.

Its been restated and proven many times: NO ONE In HA cares about favor. Favor should be based on PvE mission scores instead of what goes on in the hall of heroes. Anet should have switched the favor system to be dependent on something else the day we started seeing more people in HA international then any other district, because right then it no longer mattered.

I agree with not having favor in a small way. It was nice this weekend to just go in solo and make an actual nice profit without having to substitute the 1k you had to pay in the beginning.

What about having luxon+kurzick decide the fate of favor? It changes so often, and it will make AB+Aspenwood, and maybe even Jade! more meaningful? Just a thought, don't bash to hard.

Could be a solution:

Make UW and FoW weekend permanent schedule once every month or once every 2 months and keep the current UW and FoW favor system.

But keep the 1000 gold (1k) fee to enter~

That cant work, luxon vs kurzick thing ( basically you mean AB right?) Affects things in cantha cause thats where it happens.
The battles Isles belong to no continent and its because of that,that HA can affect the favor system.

I went to FoW once, our party was wiped, and that was that.

If you're not getting Ectos or Shards, I don't see the point.

How about favor among the three continents then. Expand the alliance system to indicate your allegiance for Tyrian and Elonian nations. Mixed teams would go by the majority birthplace of the characters, etc.

Just an idea...

I've been playing this GW since shortly after it came out. I went into UW once with a group of 8, we aggroed both sides and we were back out in about .2 sec. I never bothered with UW/FoW after that.
This weekend was great! Without worrying about the cash and having plenty of people to join up with, I spent a large part of the last three days in FoW...for the first time! I learned a lot about this game that I didn't know before, got a decent pile of loot, my first shards and ecto and a couple nice golds. Basically, I had a blast and I'm really looking forward to spending a lot more time in this area of the game that I had completely ignored in the past.
